Concrete contractor installs sidewalks in NW WashingtonCustom Concrete crews will soon be wrapping up work on 130,000 square feet of flatwork in Snohomish County. We had the opportunity to serve as subcontractor on GC Interwest Construction’s public works project for Snohomish County North Road Improvements.

North Road is a north-south arterial located east of Interstate 5 and west of the Bothell-Everett Highway (SR 527). The two-lane corridor has been under construction in 2014 and 2015.
The scope of work Custom Concrete crews completed included sidewalks (about 2.5 miles of it!), driveway approaches and ADA ramps. These safety improvements will provide pedestrians with safer places walk for many years to come.
The image above shows of our work during construction. You’ll note the ADA ramps being installed and also the clean and tidy jobsite—something our crews are famous for.
Have you heard the term “shiner strip” as it relates to concrete construction? The image shown below shows evenly spaced expansion joints and shiner strip details around each segment of sidewalk—the detail gives what could be a boring sidewalk a big dose of visual appeal.
We think shiner strips look awesome in both public spaces and sidewalks around private homes! Shiner strips are created by skimming the surface with a 4” edger after sidewalks have been broom finished. Our flatwork finishers are experts when it comes to installing shiner strips.
